Fingernails are a part of the hand washing process and general cleaning process. Throughout the day your nails can pick up dirt and particles from different places. Even small amounts of debris and dirt under your nails can spread illness, so it’s important to keep in mind that washing your hands and nails more carefully isn’t just for you.

1. Stop Biting Your nail

Biting your nails causes a lot of damage. In addition to making your nails look pathetic, the contact with your saliva makes them weak and brittle. It also harms your cuticles. Also, putting fingers in your mouth transmits the dirt and germs from your fingers to your mouth.

3. Cut and File Your Nails


Nails should be kept fairly short. The longer they are, the more easily they are damaged – especially your fingernails, if you work with your hands. If they are fine, you can use a normal clipper; for anything thicker – usually toenails, but sometimes fingernails – you will need a heavy-duty version. Use a nail file for shape, or if it hurts when you clip your nails. You don’t need to use it in just one point, but do file gently.

 

4. Keep Your Nail Dry


Take care of your nails with clear or colorful nail polish and you can feel good. But for some people, the benefits of a DIY many are outweighed by the time required for the polish to dry. While it can take 5 to 10 minutes for polish to fully set on the nail, there are some shortcuts you can try to make the process go faster.

 

5. Moisturize and Protect Your Nails

 


For dry, brittle nails, massage petroleum jelly or a thick cream into your nails to hold moisture around and under your nails. Make sure you moisturize your cuticles – apply either coconut or Castrol oil to the cuticles and massage gently to nourish them. If you do this at sleep time, slip a pair of thin cotton gloves on your hands before you to sleep.
